Collecting Money Judgments

Collecting money judgements is about as easy as riding a bucking bronco while blindfolded with your hands tied behind your back.  You'll be thrown alright, but not in quite the same way as in a rodeo.  One thing is certain, the collection of money judgments is best left to experienced professionals; they won't be wearing blindfolds and will have full use of their hands, brains, training and experience.

A money judgement is a final award ordered (decreed) by a Civil Court.  It is an official statement that the parties identified in the "Final Judgment" are legally indebted to you for a specific amount of money.  The award may include terms such as a specific amount of interest being added to the award amount per year.  One of our clients was awarded $186,000 + 7% per year beginning with the date the final judgment was ordered.

Winning a lawsuit and a financial judgment can cost a veritable fortune in legal fees.  Even though you won the case you have nothing to show for it.  The court award will not be really real until after you have collected all or at least some of the debt from your debtor. You should note that the debt must be collected before the Final Judgment expires.  It can be renewed in many states, but that is another story.
